Department of the Environment Library
From the onset of the establishment of the Department of the Environment, we have had a library that specializes in the collection and dissemination of information dealing with the environment and related areas. The library support the mission of the DOE by information gathering, management, sharing and retrieval of specialized materials dealing with environmental studies and related areas.
Library Mission
“The DOE Library mission is to collect, organize and make available information on environmental issues and support the research needs of the parent organization and ultimately, to further acquire information through an automated exchange of data with other organizations in Belize and internationally.”
Environmental information deals with complex scientific, technological and social problems which impact the environment in one way or another. These include, for example, the climate change and global warming, stratospheric ozone depletion, depletion of freshwater resources, deforestation, waste and toxic chemicals, inadequate shelter and water supply, noise, environmentally-related diseases, and many others. Like the problems with which it deals, environmental information is multidisciplinary and cross-sectoral in scope, global in origin and rapidly increasing.
The Library also contains hard and soft copies of Environmental Impact Assessments, copies of National Reports and studies, Environmental Compliance Plans, videos, maps and CDs and DVDs of various environmental subject matters. These can be viewed by the general public during normal working hours (weekdays 8:00am to 5:00pm).
